Do’s and Dont’s
As a pet parent, one should be careful about the do’s and dont’s about their pets.
DO’s
1) when you buy your pet or if you adopt them, give them time to adjust to the new surroundings. It might take 2-3 days. You might observe some barking or wining but just pat them and keep them close to you.
2) If you decide to have a pet, you should be ready to raise him and nurture your pooch like your own baby, because, she/ he will be a part of your family.
3) It’s quite obvious, but all dogs should be vaccinated timely.
4) After the age of 5-6 months, basic training is a must for all dogs of all breed (age might differ according to different breed)
5) After the trainer trains your dog, learn the tricks from the trainer and try them yourself. This is important because your pet will learn to obey you too.
6)Keep a regular check on ticks and skin infections. Also make sure to wash off shampoo properly, else it can cause skin infection.
7)Ticks do not die easily. Do not throw them away, they might come back again. You can burn them or flush them or crush them.
8)Do make a habit of socializing your pet. Socializing your pets with other people and other dogs is very important. (Be careful if the other dog have ticks)
9) Make sure your dog is hydrated. With all the dog food and dog biscuits, it is very important that dogs drink alot of water.
10) Keep a track of the medical vaccinations on a regular basis.
11) Visit your vet frequently.
12) If going our for a vacation and planning to leave your dog at a pet creche or boarding, make sure of the place and staff before leaving your pooch there. when he/she comes back, check and make sure, he/she doesn't have ticks on their body.
DONT’s
1) Do not hit them or shout at them with no reason. But if your pet does something wrong, just a small hit on shoulder with a loud NO would make him/her understand.
2) Do not give food from the table. This way whenever you sit down to eat, your pet would jump and beg for food.
3) Do not overfeed your pets. Search on the internet about the quantity of food to be given to a particular dog breed of a particular age. Many breeds like labra and retrievers do not know when to stop eating. So pet parents have to be careful.
4) Do not allow your pet to eat from the floor. Otherwise he/she will have a habit of eating off the floor and also from the road when he/she goes on a walk.
5) Do not allow him/her to poop or pee inside the house. Take him/her out of the house for the same.
6) Do not feed your dogs with your hand. If you are away, the dog wont eat from his bowl and might fall sick.
7) Do not release your temper or irritation on your pets. They are just there for you. Just because they cant speak doesn’t mean you can hit them.
8) If you do have a dog, Do not abandon him. If you are having second opinion about having a pet, Do not own a dog. Own a dog only when you are 1000% sure.
As a pet parent, be careful as there is member in your family who cannot speak but loves you alot, no matter what. So it is very important that you, as pet parents, be most careful and more attentive towards your pooch.
